Kipke won four consecutive conference championships from 1930 to 1933 and national titles in 1932 and 1933. Then it collapsed — Michigan won ten games total across his last four seasons and he was fired after 1937.
His overall mark of 46-26-4 undersells both halves of the story. Few Michigan coaches have been better at their peak or worse at the end.
