First conference championship (1898)
Gustave Ferbert won Michigan's first conference championship in 1898 and went 24-3-1 over three seasons. He had played for Michigan before he coached it.
The 1898 title team is the reason "The Victors" exists — Louis Elbel wrote the fight song after watching Michigan beat Chicago to clinch it.
