QB Lopati and EDGE Kitchen were the early anchors of this class. Back in May, the Wolverines went on a recruiting tear, landing 8 blue-chip recruits in a single month. Burrell and Harington (Mount Carmel teammates) both landed during that span. Muhammad followed immediately. Robinson, Brewer, and several others piled on. Torbert’s July commitment was the biggest recent win, beating Ohio State for a top-100 corner. Mageo closed out the current group on July 11.
Perhaps the only concern may be that this class is only 19% in state, but this is a national class by design.
Positional Notes
Offense
Quarterback is settled with Lopati. Running back has a physical four-star in Robinson. Wide receiver is headlined by Burrell, the highest-rated skill player in the class. Tight end has real size with Lumpris. The offensive line is led by Lipsey (the top-rated tackle) plus three interior pieces who give them numbers and flexibility.
Defense
The front is strong. Muhammad is a high-end interior piece. The EDGE room has three four-stars in Kitchen, Emedobi, and Brewer. Linebacker has Ford as the clear lead piece. The secondary is the deepest unit on paper as Torbert, Harrington, Jenkins, and Johnson give them multiple starters with upside.
What Stands Out
The class is top-heavy in the right places. Two top-100 prospects and a long list of four-stars give it a solid floor. The secondary and defensive line look like potential strengths early. The offensive line has a clear cornerstone in Lipsey.
One thing that you would like to see Michigan do on or before national signing day would be to get a 5-Star prospect. Of course, recruiting rankings aren't the end all be all, and Michigan has finished without a 5-Star before, but the statistics say they're rated that highly for a reason.
Overall, this is a class that will provide a lot of depth for years to come while also offering Michigan it's potential QB of the future. There's still a lot of time between now and signing day, but this is shaping up to be one of the better classes in recent memory.
